Sonic can be used and will work alongside a water softener. However, Sonic should be installed before your water softener installation.

Water softeners come in different sizes, but some of the smallest are 0.5m H x 0.2m W x 0.37m D so please check if there is enough space to install this (or ask your plumber if you’re not sure).

It’s worth noting how much water a water softener consumes. The Sonic app has a proposed default value of a 60-minute threshold of consistent water intake before sending an alert of long water usage. Water softeners have a water intake of more than 40 minutes’ long usage.

This means you’ll need to increase the threshold to be higher than the intake generated by the softener so as not to receive false alerts on your app. You can change the settings in your app.

Some of our members who have Sonic and a water softener have reported that the water softener can cause their pressure tests to fail. We’re carrying out further investigation on this.
